# MRI Contraindications

Review all contraindications with the person before scheduling or running sessions. Add explanations for any cleared contraindications to the “Contraindication Notes” section of subject database.

<summary><strong>Poor Eyesight &#x26; Cannot Wear Contacts</strong></summary>

If they do not wear contacts, ask for their glass’s prescription&#x20;

* <mark style="color:red;">**Disqualify**</mark><mark style="color:red;">:</mark>&#x20;
  * Cannot read/see clearly 1.5 - 2 ft away&#x20;
  * Prescription over - 2.0 in each eye&#x20;

<summary><strong>Metal In or On Person's Body</strong></summary>

Ask them where it is located and what it is &#x20;

* <mark style="color:red;">**Disqualify**</mark><mark style="color:red;">:</mark>&#x20;
  * Metal screws or plates&#x20;
  * Retainers/braces on top AND bottom teeth or along top teeth&#x20;
  * Non-removable metal jewelry&#x20;
  * Copper IUD &#x20;
  * Pacemaker&#x20;
* <mark style="color:green;">**Allow**</mark><mark style="color:green;">:</mark>&#x20;
  * Retainers/braces only along bottom teeth&#x20;
  * Replacement is made out of nonmagnetic metal (nonferrous)&#x20;
  * Jewelry is plastic and/or removable&#x20;
  * Hormonal IUD&#x20;

Ask them what type of surgery they received and how long ago it was&#x20;

Ask them where located, how old, and if professionally done&#x20;

  * Located on face/neck&#x20;
  * Not professionally done
